7 Out-Of-The-Box Date Ideas You Need To Try With Your S.O This Month

Pencil-in some alone time with your S.O.

By Siobhan Taylor | 8th May 2018

Thinking of something out-of-the-box to do with your S.O can be tricky work. While we have no qualms settling in-front of Netflix to watch the latest comedy special, sometimes we actually want to get out and do something a little different. Whether it’s a midweek date night or a Saturday better spent outdoors, we’ve done the legwork and discovered a bunch of unique activities you can enjoy with your other half.

CBD Staycation

This one may require slightly more prep but is there anything more romantic than a night in the city? Whether it’s the iconic, old-world splendour of Treasury Brisbane or the chic modernity of NEXT Hotel, you’re sure to impress your S.O. with a luxurious escape. Plus, with some of Brisbane’s best bars and restaurants within walking distance, you’re in for a winner of a date night! For an intimate experience, make sure you hit up our fave whisky saloon, The Gresham. Working on a budget? Enter our competition to win a luxury weekend escape in Brisbane!

Cinema Under The Stars

Have you heard the word on the street? The CBD’s Post Office Square is hosting a pop-up cinema under the stars every Wednesday this May! Whether you and your S.O are cinephiles or whether you just enjoy the classics, get off the sofa this month and head to this pop-up cinema experience. Screening all your favourite romantic-comedies, it’s the perfect opportunity to linger in the city after work for a romantic date night. If you aren’t able to prepare your own picnic basket, don’t fret. CBD-newcomers Isles Lane will take care of the catering with their $15 grazing-box-for-2 which includes all the snacks you could want, such as pear, rocket & walnut salad, cheese, cold meats, crackers and cherry & chocolate brownies! For a little extra comfort, outdoor rugs will be set up if you forget to pack your own.

Bar Hopping

If you’re a fan of a well-poured beverage, why not make a night of it and bar-hop your way through Brisbane’s best bars? From dive bars to champagne dreams, there are plenty of bars to add to your hit list. From dive bars to champagne dreams, there are plenty of bars to add to your hit list. OTTO is one of our faves thanks to their incredible wine list, stunning river views and impeccable menu, but we can’t go past Riverland when it comes to enjoying a cold beer on the river.

Picnic In The Park

If you make your way to the stunning City Botanic Gardens any Saturday this May, you’ll find yourself immersed in a garden oasis of live music and relaxing picnics. The City Botanic Gardens will be hosting Saturday-arvo picnic parties with everything you could possibly need for a charming afternoon with your S.O. Live music will be performed by the likes of Dave Orr Band, the Lachlan McKenzie Trio and The Sugar Shakers, with swinging tunes and jazz sounds filling the air. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? It gets better! There will also be food trucks on site serving up sweet & savoury bites to satisfy your hunger. Perfect if you forget to pack a basket (or just don’t know your brie from your camembert)!

To Market, To Market

If you’re early birds, why not turn it into a date activity? Hitting up some of Brisbane’s premier produce markets may not sound like a date activity, but that’s just because you’re not thinking creatively. At Jan Power’s Farmers Markets there are plenty of food trucks serving mouth-watering fare, from Vietnamese rice paper rolls to Spanish paella. Or, if you’re looking for an evening market, take your love to the Brisbane Twilight Markets and peruse the incredible selection of handmade wares. You can browse the stalls looking for a sweet gift for one another and then exchange them over dinner. Now come on, doesn’t that sound just a little bit sweet?

Gallery Exploring

Flex your general knowledge muscles with an afternoon exploring some of the under-the-radar museums of Brisbane. History-buffs and culturally-curious alike will enjoy the opportunity to learn more about our city, as well as the chance to impress their date with some of their know-how. The Museum Of Brisbane and Customs House are particularly impressive.

Foodie Trail

If your idea of the perfect date involves food, food and more food, plan a foodie trail through Brisbane that hits up all your favourite dining destinations! Whether it’s gourmet pub fare at Isles Lane, intimate dining at Brew Café & Wine Bar, Americana-eats at Red Hook or delish Italian dining at Corbett & Claude, there are plenty of winners to choose from.

When she's not at the beach, she can be spotted lusting after makeup she can't afford, re-watching The Office (the US version, obviously) or annoying her friends with her insane astrology theories (she's an Aquarius, FYI).
