The alarm goes off and you groan. The gym gear is sitting on the edge of your bed and you just know you have to haul ass and go for the same run past the same trees, dodge the same yappy dog straining against his leash and side-step the same early morning fitness-freaks. You’re stuck in a fitness rut and you need some fitness hacks, STAT.

1 Trampolining

Who knew everyone’s favourite childhood pastime could pass as exercise? Trampolining is our number one fitness hack. In fact, bouncing up and down can be 68 per cent more effective than jogging. 2 Boxing

Don’t be fooled: boxing is not just for body-builder tough types, it's the perfect hack to get you out of your rut. It's a dance class for all those not blessed with rhythm or hand-eye co-ordination. This class has no choreography, no teachers, no technique, no lycra and, you guessed it, no lights. This is a space where you can go completely wild and move to the beat of your own drum. For the small price of $5 you can express yourself through your dance moves in a judgement-free zone and burn off those calories while shaking it off.

4  Cardio Tennis

It’s exactly what it sounds, tennis with some intense cardio. This high-energy movement includes a 10-15 minute warm up; 30-minute cardio segment and 15 minute cool down. Be inspired by the upbeat music; check your fitness levels and calorie burning with heart-rate monitors. Women can burn up to 500 calories and men up to 800 in this hour-long workout. As well as improving your fitness, you’ll gain some mad hand-eye coordination and tennis skills.

5 Abseiling

If you’re a thrillseeker then running or gymming it just won’t cut it. You need a high-adrenalin exercise to keep you interested in moving your butt. Enter abseiling.
