Hungry? Because you’re about to be

By Dinushka Gunasekara | 12th November 2020

Here’s the dish: boozy soft serve, spiced miso cauliflower popcorn and Moreton Bay bug loaded fries. These are on our radar this month in Brisbane’s newest eateries. Book now or regret.

Joey's

We know you love to dine riverside, but how about taking it up a notch to cliff side? Throw in iconic prawn sandwiches, fresh and considered cocktails, good vibes all ‘round, and you have yourself a winner. Shall we introduce you to Joey’s? Hailing from an envious position atop the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, be welcomed by the custom-built wood fired pizza oven on entry. Hit the elevated deck for a showcase of locally sourced produce designed to be shared amongst refreshing menu items such as their signature kingfish tacos or crab linguini. As for drinks, the wine list is carefully curated by a Judy Hirst Award Winner and Australian Sommelier of the Year, so expect it to be divine.

Siffredi's Spaghetti Bar

From the pomposity of semi-fine dining to boozy soft serve, these lads took their redundancy cheques from Stokehouse (RIP) and turned them into a cheeky spaghetti bar. With flavour combos and execution distinct from the norm, their experience from Michelin-star kitchens and knowledge of the Aussie food scenes will be channelled into handmade pasta heroing local farmers and growers. Think chilli spaghetti with XO pippies and sea urchin butter. The wine will be ever-changing, with a focus on small Australian producers and a smattering of old-world wines, as well as a couple of classic cocktails done differently. Just learn from my mistake and don’t google the name during work hours.

Lost Palms Brewing Co.

Putting a bright pink flag in the ground at their new Sherwood location, GC’s favourite dreamy brewery is joining the bustling Brisbane craft beer scene. Serving holiday vibes alongside a broad range of 11 tap beers and a rotating selection of small-batch brews and one-off kegs for the more adventurous beer drinker, you’ll take a second, take a sip, and get lost. If you tend to steer clear of the froth, their seltzers, ciders, beer-blended cocktails and simple selection of wine and spirits will be up your alley, as well as burgers and bar snacks. And, of course, Lost Pams is fur baby-friendly – it’s good times for everyone here!

Kiddo

Revenge is a dish best served cold, or where Tokyo meets El Paso in this Japanese and American infused, Kill Bill-inspired bar and kitchen. Kiddo hides behind a secret door on California Lane, serving a funky menu of vibrant eats and inventive drinks. Channel Bill’s final meal in the pork belly bao with sriracha sauce or pop it with Charlie Brown’s spiced miso cauliflower popcorn. For drinks, there’s Vernita’s Popcorn-Cawfee if you’re feeling sweet, or the Beatrix: 4 Years On Ice that’s always a good idea (it’s literally served in a light bulb). And if you’re undecided, take a look in every corner and crevice for a secret menu scattered around.

Felons Barrel Hall

Your favourite home of the sunny Sunday sesh has opened its doors to a modern Aussie take on a German beer hall. Featuring a kaleidoscope of new and punchy flavours in both bite and brew, there’s something to keep all beer bellies content here. Expect a core range of crisp and delicious beers, as well as selected limited and seasonal release beers, plus evolved forms of pub favourites. We’re talking Moreton Bay bug loaded fries, spicy marinated wagyu steak lettuce wraps and, of course, plenty of oysters to go around. Each dish uses only the best Australian ingredients that are ethically farmed and fished, and pair perfectly with a stein (or two or three).
