Step 1: Find a date.
Step 2: Subtly (or not-so-subtly) hint at this list for your date night.
Step 3: Enjoy a romantic dinner out!
Whether you’re out to impress on a first date, or have forgotten the last REAL date night you went on with your partner, these romantic venues should guide you in the right direction… and may even seal the deal for a goodnight kiss.
If you’re in a relationship, you’re already halfway there! And if you’re still looking for that special someone, we’ve got some helpful advice here.
1. Longtime, Fortitude Valley
Longtime is a modern Thai restaurant hidden down a Fortitude Valley alleyway. The cosy atmosphere, clever lighting, trailing greenery and exposed brick interiors are perfect for a first date. Sitting side-by-side along the bar will also make the experience more relaxing, with your waiter-cross-bartender only ever a few metres away.
2. Byblos, Hamilton
One of Brisbane’s much-loved riverside restaurants, Byblos, experienced a makeover in 2014. It now boasts exotic features and fit-outs such as plush leathers, oak timbers, smooth stone and luxe velvets to the existing Middle Eastern-inspired interiors. The venue serves imaginative Mediterranean cuisine with world-class wine selection.
3. Gordita, Fortitude Valley
Gordita is Spanish slang for “little cute fat girl” and is often given as an affectionate phrase for a loving partner. The venue is known for its authentic southern Spanish tapas, extensive artisanal wine collection and moody art deco design.
4. Stokehouse Q, South Bank
For a stylish yet understated approach to luxury, South Bank’s Stokehouse Q offers unsurpassed river views and a contemporary and refreshing Mediterranean menu. If the meal goes well, a stroll along South Bank’s river walkway is a perfect way to end the night.
5. Sono, Portside
Is it time to take a break from the usual takeaway and Netflix nights with your partner and try something new? Sono Portside offers a tranquil and relaxing Japanese dining experience on the river at Portside Wharf, with teppanyaki bars and traditional horigotatsu-style dining (a sunken cavity in the floor for guests’ feet with a table a little above floor level).
6. Lurleen’s, Mount Cotton
Get out of the city and escape to the picturesque Sirromet Winery at Mount Cotton, with breathtaking scenery Moreton Bay and the sand ridges of Stradbroke Island visible from the award-winning restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Here you’ll find quality wines and modern Australian cuisine (Sirromet even released a wine range dedicated to lurve in time for Valentine's Day 2016).
7. Esquire, Brisbane CBD
While Esquire is a sophisticated, multi-award-winning venue, it still maintains its local charm as an unpretentious degustation restaurant on the Brisbane river. Each course is more imaginative than the last, with salty, savoury, buttery and sweet dishes.
8. BlackBird, Brisbane CBD
Inspired by The Great Gatsby-style opulence of the roaring 20s, BlackBird’s chic and sophisticated dining room has gold accents, vintage wallpaper and decor, chandeliers and comfortable dining armchairs.
9. Pony Dining, Brisbane CBD
This cosy premier waterfront dining venue offers delicious modern Australian share plates and robust wood-fired dishes, with a lasting impression of oak, brick and sleek black interiors with a tantalising fragrance of wood smoke passing through the venue.
10. Malt Dining, Brisbane CBD
Sometimes the best gems are hidden in the most unassuming places. In an iconic inner-city building you’ll find a unique, rustic, chic and extremely romantic venue: Malt Dining. Once inside this three-levelled venue, it’s easy to forget you’re in downtown Brisbane. The restaurant is found in the attic and has cognac-coloured décor, dark 150-year-old brick walls and brooding, dimly-lit rooms.
11. Alchemy, Brisbane CBD
Experience fine dining and spectacular views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge at Alchemy on Eagle Street Pier. With such a gorgeous backdrop, how could this not be a dead-set dating winner?
Or for something a little different…
12. Wheel of Brisbane, South Bank
If your date isn’t afraid of heights, you can have an onboard dining experience on the wheel in a VIP air-conditioned gondola. Packages vary, with a maximum of 25 minutes onboard the wheel, which provides the perfect opportunity to pair your entrées with a show at QPAC afterwards.
13. Gondolas on the river, Newstead
If you’re after a special and intimate dinner, without any distractions, you can secure a private chauffeured gondola with a candlelit dinner, romantic music, roses and chocolates! We can't imagine anything more romantic than floating down the Brisbane River, feasting on gourmet delights and staring into the eyes of your beloved!
