Decades may pass and fashion trends may come and go, but this staple can always be found in your wardrobe: the humble t-shirt.
Whether you’re paring it back with your favourite denims or layering it underneath a jacket, the perfect t-shirt can be hard to come by.
While Rebel Cavallucci was managing sister Nicky Charman’s store (Calexico) on James Street, the pair travelled the world together, picking clothes to bring back to Brisbane.
After years of trying to find the perfect tee, Rebel decided to create a fashion range of her own: Frances Hendrie.
We caught up with the Perth-born designer to find out what inspired her collection and which Frances Hendrie tee is a must-have for any wardrobe:
What inspired you to start Frances Hendrie?
I have always had a love for t-shirts. I would wear them to every occasion if I could. I decided I wanted to create a brand that offered a great-quality and great-fitting range of t-shirts that you could purchase time after time without them changing. A real basic of basics brand that complements everything else in your wardrobe.
What inspired your tight collection of tees?
I have been trying to find the perfect tee for years! I took what I love about my favourites and tried to combine everything together. We have tried to make a t-shirt for every occasion and style: boyfriend, fitted, raw edge, special details and your classic everyday tees.
What makes Frances Hendrie tees so great?
We are your quintessential t-shirts. Frances Hendrie focuses on finding the perfect fit in each of our styles and [we] offer it season after season. We make sure when you are in need of a basics revamp we have you covered. We also really focus on our branding and making sure people can see the different ways that a basic can be transformed into your own personal style. Our latest campaign is all about the Urban Basics. Our fabrics are organic and ethically-sourced as well!
What Frances Hendrie tee should every woman have in her wardrobe?
Personally, I love the Rixon and the Wye tee. The Wye is your more relaxed boyfriend everyday style and the Rixon is perfect with jeans and heels for daytime dress-up!
What’s next for Frances Hendrie?
We have a few exciting things on the cards for the new year; some new styles and fabrics are coming through and basic shirting is on the cards as well. We keep getting feedback to do underwear as well – we want to keep our FH girls happy so watch this space!
