It may be just another Hallmark holiday, but Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new outfit (as if we really needed one!) So whether it’s a hot dinner date, a casual picnic – or if you’re a single lady hitting the town – these three looks are guaranteed to steal your heart – and his! Here's what to wear this Valentine's Day.

DINNER DATE

What to wear to a Valentine's Day dinner date

Clockwise from left: Seer marble plunge bodice $330, zimmermann; Greta culotte $89.95 bardot; Angle Diamond Dot Larrissa Mar earrings $314 www.angleediamonddot.com.au; Mimco Afriquette medium pouch $179 mimco; Nine West Catch Me heel $139.95 ninewest

Whether you’re in a long-term relationship, or testing the waters on a first date, it is key to nail a look that’s sexy, but sophisticated. An easy way to do this is with the neither-pants-nor-skirt must-have item of the season – culottes. There is a slight possibility your man will broach these with a degree of confusion, however this can be offset by pairing them with a crop top to show a bit of skin, and some stilettos to balance the fuller silhouette. A bare décolletage also calls for either a statement necklace or earrings like these from Angle Diamond Dot.

PICNIC DATE

Clockwise from left: Chambray shirt dress $149.95 witchery; Spencer boater $45 lack of colour; Vallarta beachie towel $55 www.soulofmexico.com.au; Afriquette bucket bag $599 mimco; Gini III sandal $199 senso; Brushed gold and black leather watch $129 www.thehorse.com.au

There are so many reasons why a picnic is the perfect activity for your Valentine’s Day date. Not only is it classier than a pub lunch but it comes without the pressure of a fancy dinner. Plus, Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday this year so crack open the Champagne, cheese and the picnic rug under a shady tree! Pair a chambray shirt dress with fringed leather sandals and a straw boater for an effortlessly stylish and ultra low-maintenance look.

SINGLE AND READY TO MINGLE!

If you’re a single lady and your ideal Valentine’s Day consists of hitting the town with the girls, there’s no better time to go all out glam. There’s nothing like an LBD to grab a room full of attention and this spaghetti strap mini dress will do just that. Add girly glamour with Valentino’s studded sling backs and accessorise with a fur clutch bag and gold jewellery. Finish your look with a sleek ponytail and you’ll be ready for whatever the night has to throw at you!
