FYI: Brisbane's Favourite Comedy Night Is Back Again With A Hilarious New Twist

I thought I’d tell you a good time travel joke – but you didn't like it.

Okay, that was our incredibly awkward segue but if that didn’t make you laugh, we’ve got something that will. If you haven’t heard, The Flying Cock (one of our favourite watering holes) hosts monthly comedy nights with a full array of live acts, hunger-satisfying eats and laughter-plying booze.

The monthly instalment of You’re Joking puts punters up close and personal (but not too personal, this isn’t Louis C.K’s office) with some of the funniest acts around town. The showcase is spearheaded by Marcus Thorpe and Brian Freeman, and this month’s instalment (on Thursday, May 17) sees a brand new element added to an already #laffworthy line-up: The Great Debate.

The Great Debate is an interactive comedy game that gets audience members on the stage to battle out questions that have plagued society for decades. Whether it’s debating the virtue of KFC Hot n Spicy vs. Original or arguing over who is the true MVP of Australian talk-show radio (it’s Alex Dyson, obviously), The Great Debate gives audience members a platform to argue loudly and passionately about stuff no one else really cares about. Kind of like Facebook. This video explains it better than we could.

Following the debate, headline act Aaron Pratt (6 ft 2 / 180 kg Polynesian man – you can’t miss him) will entertain guests will stories of his childhood, observations on the hilarious topic of cultural stereotypes, and what it’s like to literally live in Mordor. Following Aaron, some of Brisbane’s funniest stand-ups will take to the stage in an attempt to steal your laughter.

As far as food & bevs (because you may need a bit of dutch courage before taking to the stage) The Coop Bistro downstairs will have $3 tacos on hand as well as plenty of booze to ply you with.

The LOLs will commence at 7:00 pm sharp Thursday, May 17. Whether you’re ready to make your stand-up debut or would prefer to watch the drama unfold, just make sure you’re there.

Disclaimer: Jerry Seinfeld will not be attendance (as far as we know).

When she's not at the beach, she can be spotted lusting after makeup she can't afford, re-watching The Office (the US version, obviously) or annoying her friends with her insane astrology theories (she's an Aquarius, FYI).
