7 Of The Best Sun Protection Products You Should Be Using This Summer

How to “slip, slop, slap” while still being makeup-friendly.

By Gracie Clough | 4th October 2018

Down Under we live in pretty tough conditions. Not only do we share a home with some of the deadliest creatures in the world, our sun is also a killer. Did you know that two in three Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70? We’ve all been told to slip, slop, slap before but research has shockingly shown that only half of Australians apply sunscreen daily. Wearing sunscreen 365 days a year is vital to protect your skin from premature ageing (UVA rays) and cancers (UVB rays). We know that some sunscreens can feel thick, heavy, smell strange and leave a white cast on the face, so we have compiled some of our favourite sun protectors just in time for the warmer months.

1. Australian Skin Institute HYDR8TAN Extender

Straight off the bat, we’re going to advise against sunbathing and tanning. The health detriments are well documented and none of us can pretend that we aren’t totally aware of how bad it is for our skin. However, if you want to boast a golden glow all summer long, ASI’s HYDR8TAN Extender should be your go-to. The moisturiser can be used daily to build up the perfect tan or added to complement and extend the life of your existing tan. Plus, with nourishing ingredients such as aloe vera, jojoba oil, shea butter and vitamin A and E, it won’t only make your skin glow, it will help make it supple and smooth, too! Australian Skin Institute products are stocked in all Brazilian Beauty Clinics, where they also provide HYDR8TAN professional spray tans for the ultimate summer glow.

2. UltraCeuticals Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+

This Australian skincare brand was created for the Australian climate, so you know your skin is in good hands with UltraCeuticals. This lightweight yet hydrating sunscreen soaks into the skin immediately and is also formulated with anti-ageing ingredients. This product is even gentle enough to be used on sensitive skins.

3. Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturiser SPF50+

Protecting against harsh UVA/UVB rays, this hard-working moisturiser boasts broad-spectrum SPF50+ to not only protect your skin from damage but also give your skin’s health a much-needed boost in those warmer months. Acting as a three-in-one age blocker, wrinkle preventer and collagen saver, it’s a must-have in your purse this summer.

4. Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50

This heavy-duty, sweat-proof, water-proof sunscreen is designed to last through it all. If you live an active lifestyle, this lightweight anti-oxidant rich sunscreen is going to be your best friend.

5. Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF30 Mineral Gel Cream

This sunscreen is the newest addition to Mecca Cosmetica’s award-winning To Save Face range. This physical sunscreen contains titanium dioxide to physically reflect UV rays – sun damage, be gone! The To Save Face Mineral Gel contains a super calming ingredient, colloidal oatmeal, so that even the most sensitive, reactive skins can use sun protection.

6. Rationale B3-T Superfluid Sunscreen SPF50+

Rationale is a Melbourne skincare brand that has achieved cult-status for a good reason. Not only does this extremely light fluid-like sunscreen provide the highest sun protection, but it is also loaded with niacinamide, vitamin c and e and green and red tea extracts. A sunscreen that is loaded with skin loving ingredients? A dream come true.

7. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light SPF50+

It’s a known fact that the French know how to make great champagne, food and skincare. This product takes out first place in the French pharmacy sunscreen category thanks to its extremely light formulation and a spray nozzle that makes it a cinch to apply.
