Celebrity beauty brands are a dime a dozen these days but only a few are actually worth the pretty penny they want you to spend. Here are some of the brands that are earning accolades for their great products.
HONEST BEAUTY BY JESSICA ALBA
In late 2015, Jessica Alba’s Honest Company was valued at $1.7 billion. Unsurprisingly, she’s a far cry from the actress who played a hip hop choreographer in 2003’s Honey. Her beauty line’s Magic Balm certainly lives up to its name. It will cure chapped lips and dry patches and can even be added to the apples of your cheeks to achieve that dewy glow. The Everything Cream Foundation is full-coverage, easy to blend and available in eight skin-true shades. Jessica’s line is clean, ideal for sensitive skin and its pay-off will not let you down. In 2014, Alba graced the covers of Shape and Forbes magazines simultaneously. It’s safe to say she’s killin’ it.
JOSIE MARAN COSMETICS BY JOSIE MARAN
Former Victoria’s Secret model Josie Maran has often admitted that the worst part of her modelling days was the chemical-filled makeup. In 2007, she self-founded Josie Maran Cosmetics, which featured her ride-or-die product, argan oil from Morocco. After her departure from modelling, Josie quickly shot to the top of the beauty game and has since won accolades from Glamour, Vogue and Elle. The self-confessed hippie now produces an enormous array of products and is not skimping on quality.
KYLIE COSMETICS BY KYLIE JENNER
Kylie Jenner is the name and product on every beauty lover’s lips. The initial success of the 20-year-old’s makeup line could easily be attributed to her social media presence and famous pout, so when the mania surrounding the announcement of Kylie’s Lip Kits subsided (slightly), everyone wanted to know what they were really signing up for. As with any beauty product in today’s market, YouTube is the harshest critic; reviews are mixed, but business continues to boom for the youngest of the Kardashians.
WANDER BEAUTY BY LINDSAY ELLINGSON
Victoria’s Secret Angel Lindsay Ellingson launched Wander Beauty in April 2015 with On-the-Glow – dual-ended lip and cheek creams and accompanying highlighters. Talk about convenience! The multi-tasking product remains one of Net-A-Porter’s best beauty sellers and is ideal for faking a jetset lifestyle or summer glow.
KAT VON D BEAUTY BY KAT VON D
Does anyone else remember that Kat Von D started out as a celebrity tattoo artist on TLC? Didn’t think so. But the intricacy of Kat’s inkings hinted that her makeup line would be something special. It has, in fact, proved special enough that her Studded Kiss Lipstick (in the Lolita shade), was Sephora’s best-selling lipstick in 2015. The Instagram page is well worth the follow too. What Kat has been able to achieve since the release of her makeup line in 2008 is nothing short of LA Ink-redible.
VICTORIA BECKHAM X ESTÉE LAUDER BY VICTORIA BECKHAM
VB continues to show us what we want (what we really, really want) with her ultra-chic Anna-Wintour-approved fashion line. The woman we thank for the LBD has since decided to spread her British wings and land in the elegance that is Estée Lauder. The price tag of the limited-edition collection is steep but you just know that the Chilean Sunset lipstick will spice up your life!
